Claire Montgomerie is a hugely talented designer and a natural teacher. Her ability to break down crochet techniques clearly and accessibly has made her books firm favourites with crocheters of all experience levels.

Claire first published The Beginner’s Guide to Crochet with Search Press, a title that perfectly reflects her thoughtful, practical approach and her passion for helping readers build confidence and creativity with their crochet. The book has performed exceptionally well, resonating especially with beginners keen to learn crochet from scratch thanks to its clear instructions, friendly tone and engaging projects.

Claire’s innovative thinking has also helped shape entirely new formats at Search Press. In 2024, she launched what has since become our best-selling and trend-defining card deck series with The Granny Square Card Deck TM. The deck has sold over 240,000 copies worldwide and has been translated into 14 different languages. Its success speaks volumes about Claire’s instinctive understanding of what modern crocheters want: inspirational, flexible ideas presented in a beautifully designed, easy-to-use format.

Building on the phenomenal success of the original deck, Claire has since worked with Search Press on two further highly successful card decks: The Granny Square Flowers Card Deck and The Granny Square Stitches Card Deck. Both have been enthusiastically received by the global crochet community and continue to sell strongly, with combined lifetime sales of over 130,000 copies since 2025, further cementing Claire’s reputation as a leading voice in contemporary crochet publishing. Ever more card decks are continuing to be discussed and created as time goes on!!

Claire brings creativity and enthusiasm to every project, and shares our commitment to producing high-quality, useful and inspiring content for crocheters around the world. Her success is something we celebrate, and we are excited to continue creating together in the years to come.

Claire has plenty more for crochet fans to look forward to. Following the success of The Beginner’s Guide to Crochet, The Beginner’s Guide to Granny Squares, The Granny Square Card Deck, The Granny Square Flowers Card Deck and The Granny Square Stitches Card Deck, she continues to bring fresh, easy-to-follow inspiration to crocheters of all levels through her clear, practical and creative approach.
