We are thrilled to celebrate our collaboration with Sarah Abbondio, one of Search Press’s most successful and widely read crochet designers. With total book sales exceeding 360,000 copies, Sarah has played a defining role in shaping the contemporary amigurumi landscape through her instantly recognisable miniature style and exceptional design consistency.
Sarah is a Danish/Swiss designer who has been interested in creating things since she was very little. She trained as a design engineer and has been working as an independent designer and product developer for several Danish brands.
Her interest in crochet started when her daughter was born and she wanted to create a unique toy for her. Sarah taught herself to crochet and it has been her primary hobby ever since.
Sarah’s work is marked by character and refinement. Her designs combine clean construction with charming details, resulting in projects that are satisfying to make and unmistakably her own. She has a rare ability to translate animals and nature-inspired subjects into miniature crochet forms that feel expressive yet streamlined, making her books appealing to a broad international audience.
Her publishing journey with Search Press began in October 2020 with the release of two standout titles: Stylish Succulents to Crochet and Mini Amigurumi Animals. The latter proved to be a landmark publication, becoming the original title in what has since grown into one of Search Press’s most successful amigurumi series which has sold over a quarter of a million copies worldwide.
Building on this success, Sarah expanded the series with Mini Amigurumi Birds and Mini Amigurumi Ocean, each introducing new themes while maintaining the elegant simplicity and precision that define her work. In November 2023, she also contributed All-New Twenty to Make: Amigurumi Animals to Search Press’s long-running Twenty to Make series, bringing her signature style into this well-loved format and reaching an even wider readership.
Sarah’s collaboration with Search Press has since extended beyond traditional book publishing into innovative new formats. Mini Amigurumi Animals was adapted into both a craft kit, launching in August 2025, and a card deck, published in November 2025. The kit includes patterns taken from two of Sarah’s most popular designs, alongside exclusive new projects, materials and tools, offering crocheters a hands-on experience guided by her designs.
Looking ahead, Sarah’s forthcoming titles continue to expand her miniature world in exciting directions. Mini Amigurumi Monsters, publishing in May 2026, adds a playful and imaginative twist to the series, while Mini Amigurumi Fantasy Creatures, scheduled for May 2027, will explore mythical characters through her refined, contemporary crochet approach. These will both cater to new audiences, especially the growing fanbase of fantasy and romantasy literature who will learn to crochet dragons, nymphs and orcs!
Working with Sarah is both rewarding and inspiring. She brings focus, reliability and creative clarity to every project, along with a shared commitment to producing books that are thoughtfully designed and genuinely enjoyable to use. Her growing body of work reflects an instinctive understanding of her audience and a strong visual identity that has helped define modern amigurumi publishing.
We are immensely proud of Sarah’s achievements with Search Press and excited to continue building this partnership as her publishing journey evolves.
