Elizabeth Moad is a busy papercrafter, workshop tutor and author. In 2001 Elizabeth left her job in Cambridge and returned to full time study at Norwich School of Art and Design to complete a fine art degree, specialising in print making. During this study Elizabeth developed a passion for all papercrafts. Now accomplished in many crafting techniques, Elizabeth is widely known for her talent in many different papercrafts such as quilling, folding, stamping and collage. She is a regular contributor to UK magazine Crafts Beautiful with monthly paper quilling master classes and also contributes monthly to PaperCrafter! magazine as part of the “ask the experts” panel. Elizabeth has run craft workshops since 2006 and enjoys teaching regular groups in her home county of Suffolk. Since 2003 Elizabeth has published 7 titles.
Origami, quilling, and other decorative papercrafts are combined in papercrafter Moads collection, which features flowers in a variety of styles, including stylized pinwheels and spirals as well as realistic roses and orchids. Each flower is presented as a full project for a card, gift bag, or other decorative item, with a suggestion included for another suitable project. While some of the projects call for a die cutter or specialty punches, theres enough information for crafters to draft their own templates and DIY their paper shapes. VERDICT Papercrafters will gravitate toward this clever collection, with its hodgepodge of techniques providing the opportunity to try something new.
Use all kinds of paper to make flower inspired projects to adorn various different items from cards and gift boxes to a wreath and bunting. Have a go at basic origami, kirigami, fringing, pleating and more to make a variety of pretty and contemporary looking projects sure to brighten up any occasion. You wont need many existing skills to do any of this but it does help if you are the owner of a die cutting machine with the relevant dies plus a good selection of craft punches. This would tend to skew it towards an existing papercrafter but despite the simplicity of many of the projects the techniques are interesting enough to appeal to a wide range of tastes and abilities. From free standing flowers for vases to modern interpretations of flowers, rosettes, pinwheels and more professional results are guaranteed with the excellent instructions. In true Search Press style each of the twenty-one projects has staged photographs, a list of what you need including measurements in imperial and metric plus a large photograph of the finished item. There is also usually another picture showing an alternative use or a mini version decorates a matching gift tag. There is not much introduction to all this apart from a basic list of what tools you need and some information about paper (weights, how to store correctly, criteria for choice etc) and all specific techniques are explained in the relevant projects. Although most items are made using new sheets of craft paper there are some ideas for recycling such as using paper from tatty old books or out of date maps. Also many projects only use a small amount of paper so are ideal for your scraps. If you like papercrafts you ought to enjoy this one.
Great book! Lots of lovely ideas, pictures and clear step by step instructions. Projects suitable for both beginners and experienced craters. Packed with tips and inspiration! I love it!
I love this little book - beautifully presented and illustrated. So much can be achieved from the excellently photographed instructions - enabling the crafter to make large or small projects alike simply by combining the designs. This book would be an excellent introduction for someone just starting the craft of paper folding. The instructions are precise and easy to follow and everything is laid out on each design page so that you don't have to keep skipping to other pages to gather all information to complete the project. A great value for money book that shares a wealth of professional knowledge in a way that both a novice or more advanced crafter could enjoy
Lovely book full of new ideas. easy to follow instructions with good picture diagrams. great value for money and a must for any keen crafters has lots of different ideas for all occasions.
This fun new title by talented papercraft designer Elizabeth Moad focuses on simple but effective techniques for creating dimensional flowers. Paper flowers are always popular, and this book covers a variety of styles, particularly teabag folding looks (Gingham Rosette Card, Yellow Flower Notebook).
A pleasant aspect of the book is that each flower is conceived as the embellishment for a project so there is always a goal in sight.
A notable feature of the book is that same-size pattern templates, where needed, are given on-page with the project, rather than having to consult a back-of-book reduced-size template section, which is the usual craft book approach. Everything is geared towards providing a hassle-free papercrafting experience. Clear step-by-steps (photo/text) accompany each project.
Many of the projects involve using simple embellishment techniques such as tone-on-tone rubber stamping in the Décor Orchid Arrangement to lift the design to another level and add more variety to the creative process. Creating an ombre effect with a mini ink pad is another winning technique.
The Concertina Flowers and Christmas Wreath made of pleated rosettes show good use of a scoring board and creasing tool to create fashionable pleated projects.
This title would make a super gift for a newbie papercrafter.
This book has a companion volume, Paper Quilling, also by Elizabeth Moad (and also from Search Press) which I am looking forward to featuring soon. Quilling is Elizabth Moads particular area of expertise so we should be in for a treat.
Brilliant book easy to follow instructions and well illustrated so makes it so easy to follow. There are some really gorgeous designs. Def recommend especially if you are wanting to try a new hobby, some of the flowers look lovely to add to a gift for someone special
This book is beautifully present. The pictures and instructions are very clear and easy to follow. The only downside is the additional cost for the equipment you require to make some of the projects. This is why I only gave it 4 stars. The projects are varied and my daughters have enjoyed having a go. I would recommend this book to anyone who wanted to have a go at a new paper craft.
This book is perfect for beginners who want to learn a new craft. The paper flowers in this book once perfected look not only eye catching and beautiful but very professional too!
There is a page in the book which lets you know every tool you need in order to make everything in this book and I would say most things that you need are fairly inexpensive and easy to get hold of. Unlike many crafting books where you need to spend a fortune to get started or have no idea of some of the materials required.
Each of the 21 projects has step by step easy to follower instructions along with pictures to guide you through making the process simple, some are more difficult than others and it can take practice to perfect some of the projects but it is definitely worthwhile! My favourite being the pink rose bouquet on page 66, they look amazing!
This is a great book for anyone who wants to try a craft, but especially for those on a budget. The book not only takes you through the different papers that can be used to make the flowers and their suitability, but also gives guidance on the toolkit you'll need to be able to make the projects (the only thing to which I would add is a selection of different sized paperclips to help hold things in position as the glue dries).
The individual projects have easy to follow instructions with clear photos to help you, making every project a doddle - I made an Orchid flower and it was very quick and deceptively simple for something so complicated-looking. I will be making a lot of these flowers to put on cards, presents and gift tags, or to make a bouquet of paper roses to display at home, among many other possible ideas.
This beautifully presented book is wonderful for crafter's of all abilities. Well done Search Press on another lovely publication.
