Add to favourites

Book Description

Jessica Palmer, illustrator and papercutter, has created 80 pages of enchanting hand-drawn pictures for you to colour and lose yourself in. The images all have a magical theme, and each one includes a hidden charm intricately worked into the design for readers to discover and colour in. The book will include designs that fit on a single page as well as those that extend across a double-page spread. Some of the designs fill the entire page and others sit within it. There is also a page on 'how to colour a gem'. The book uses high quality paper which means there is no show-through.

Lovely book. Really nice pictures. Have enjoyed sharing this book with my 8 year old daughter. She loved all the magical creatures to colour in. Its really different to other books we have had.

An interestingly illustrated colouring book with a hidden gem in each design for you to find and colour. Each design is based in fantasy and magic. The illustrations range from large to small and complex to simple so there will be a design ready for you no matter how much time you have to spare.

As well as the pages to colour your also get a colouring guide on how to colour the gems - I found this interesting as normally my gems lack the depth I would like but this guide helped give them a more 3D look. The guide was very simple to follow.

Quality of the paper is very good - its a good weight and thickness. Great to use water colour pencils, pens or regular colouring pencils with no bleed through.

Fabulous book. The pages are filled with magical, and mysterious feeling creatures and designs. My daughter has already been inspired by the book to create her own drawings from the book.

The only downside is some of the drawings are quite small, sharpen your pencils to get in the smaller bits. The paper is nice & thick, and a true white so great to use.

Its great to see something different from the usual colouring books!

Crafts Beautiful

Jessica Palmer's latest colouring book, Tangle Magic, features 80 fantastical hand-drawn images, each with a hidden 'charm' motif to look out for. The artworks are on high quality paper so there is no show-through, plus there's a page on how to colour a gem.

Tangle Magic was published in its original smaller format back in 2016; this new edition is larger, which makes the fantastic illustrations look even more impressive.  The paper is smooth with a slightly glossy texture and of above average thickness, so will take water-based pens if you dont press too hard (not Sharpies).  Like its sister publication Tangle Wood (also reviewed on this site) it is also ideal for newer media such as brush pens or watercolour pencils. Many pictures are spread on two pages, and there are fewer options for your own drawings than in Tangle Wood, but then this book has its own charm.

For one thing it comes complete with a colouring lesson at the front on how to colour a gem using pencils and there are quite a few gems to test your new skills on.  The emphasis is very much on fantasy, and the authors imagination has been given free rein resulting in some amazing and original images.  A peacock rides on a broomstick, a chameleon wears a wizards hat, chickens ride bicycles and a bird is made from snowflakes.  Birds feature widely, fighting over gems, wearing clothes and ornate crowns.  There are pages of jewellery to add gems to, creatures made up of vegetation and a blank crystal ball awaits your own vision of the future.  The line widths vary from very fine to medium, but all look hand drawn with no pixilation. Another feature common to all this authors books is a list of items to find hidden in the pictures and a this book belongs to page.  Even the covers can be coloured, plus the end papers.  I do hope we havent seen the last of Jessica Palmers wonderful colouring books.

Amazon Customer Review

Beautiful and calming.

The colouring book arrived pretty quickly, the colouring book is simply beautiful and it calms me down when I am feeling anxious, I get to focus on what I am colouring. I think it's nice that they have a Facebook group so that your able to give tips and tricks, talking about creative things and be able to show what you've been doing.
