I am an experienced maker of clothes using a machine but have never attempted to go outside of those parameters. This book is so easy to follow and understand and with the step by step instructions makes things less daunting. With the lockdown I've had time to thoroughly digest this book and have had the time to make several items that are in it and I'm so happy with the results. It is the perfect book for beginners and for experienced sewers like myself who are not very adventurous. Loved it!

Fabulous! I really did learn to sew in 30 minutes. There are paper patterns included which were perfect for a quick and easy start. My confidence and sewing skills have improved dramatically.

This book is essential reading for the beginner, or as a reminder of basic stitchery! The projects range from easy through to more the more challenging pieces and every project features full colour pictures and well written instructions. I have always been anxious when adding zips but using the simple steps I think I have got over the doom and gloom of them. Thoroughly recommended and fabulous to browse through too.

The Woolly Adventures of a Knitting Kitty

If you are wanting to improve your sewing skills, then I can definitely recommend your taking a look at this book. As well as containing 25 projects which build on skills learnt, there is also a useful guide to fabrics, what you need for a basic sewing kit and a wish list for extras and a guide to what's what on a sewing machine. Although I'm not a beginner, my sewing skills are quite limited, and most of what I can do has been taught to me by taking classes. So I was interested to look at the different projects and follow the progression of sewing skills. The projects are set out in 5 chapters: Knowing your Fabrics, Using Interfacing, Applique and Surface Stitching, Quilting and Patchwork and Haberdashery in Focus, finishing with one final project that pulls together many of the techniques covered. Also included at the back of the book is a pocket with a double sided actual size pattern sheet that you can use to trace some of the patterns.

I really liked the clear layout of the book, especially the Sewing 101 summary at the start of each project which explained exactly what skills you'd be learning, a list of the supplies needed to complete each project and also any new sewing terminology. I picked out four different projects to have a go at from the first three chapters of the book. I must admit that I was a little sceptical that I would be able to complete each one within 30 minutes, but I did! Each project has step by step instructions, is well illustrated with photographs and extra little tips from Debbie. It's almost as if she is sat next to you, talking you through each stage and holding your hand!

Learn to Sew in 30 Minutes: Machine Sewing is a great book - perfect for learning many basic sewing skills. It would be a good gift for anyone wanting to learn to sew and make some really nice projects in the process. It's clearly written and each project is well explained, so I think that even a child or teenager would be able to work their way through it with some adult support and feel very pleased with what they've made. I know that I am!

Amazon

This is a fun, chatty, well-written sewing book full of light humour. The information provided is clear and easy to understand. Instructions are well explained with lots of pictures shown throughout. It is an ideal book for beginners but also has lots to offer more experienced crafters. Very helpful information boxes are printed in each section explaining Tips, Techniques and Lingo.

The templates provided are printed on good quality paper and are full sized so don't require enlarging. Honestly, even if you don't make all the projects, this book is well worth owning as it is packed full of information, tips, and advice. I am delighted with it and would happily recommend buying it.

Simply Sewing

Amazon

This is an essential book for the beginner sewist.

With 25 projects and a double sided pattern sheet, it is a complete lesson on how to sew.

Every project has a different skill to learn. From zips to applique, there are helpful tips and finishing ideas to guide through each process.

This bright colourful book is perfect for a complete novice, but the projects are brilliant for gift ideas for every lover of sewing.

I love how the ideas included are great for stash busting. Some using just a small amount of fabric, and can be completed in an afternoon.

Highly recommended

Amazon

I was so excited to receive this book as I'm just starting out on my craft journey so all inspiration is gratefully received.

The book consists of 25 quick and easy projects from toys to bags, each one to help build your skill on the sewing machine.

You are taken through each project step-by-step. There are lots of colourful pictures showing different aspects of the projects and fantastic tip sections and helpful check lists, so you can prepare for each project without having to search for things half way through. Plus paper patterns are included.

The lingo is explained in helpful little pink boxes, as before I read this book I had no idea about finger pressing! You will have to read this book yourself to find out what it is! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading Learn to Sew in 30 minutes: Machine Sewing by Debbie Von Grabler-Crozier and highly recommend it for the novice sewer.

Customer Review

This book is a little gem for the beginner sewer, very informative with clear instructions. Each project teaches something new and the items are practical or decorative. The patterns enclosed in a rear flap are very sturdy and full sized.
