Make 11 new scrap-quilt projects with Judy Gauthier’s simple, fun cutting techniques. Use remnants in odd shapes and sizes and fabric prints you never thought would go together.
Judy Gauthier is a wife, mother, and Certified Critical Care Nurse. She began sewing at a young age and is the owner of Bungalow Quilting & Yarn, a modern quilt shop. She lives in Ripon, Wisconsin, USA with her family and her poodle, Leroy. Her website is www.bungalowquilting.com
These scrap quilts follow may rules. A scrap is at least 3 1/2" square. Only three templates are used 3 1/2", 4 1/2" and 5 1/2". Any type of print can be used in a cluster with other prints of the same colour. Bias edge can be interfaced before cutting.
There is also an important Keystone block, one 3 1/2" square and two rectangles cut from a 5 1/2" square. The 11 bed quilts have intricate patterns, often with elongated triangles, with colours merging across the top. The triangles are cut from the template squares. These quilts require accurate cutting. The instructions are precise and detailed.
Every sewist has a box filled with pieces of fabric of various sizes, that we keep... just in case. Well now there is a reason to root through that box, to find and match treasured pieces and make a gift or heirloom quilt for a loved one.
There are 11, different sized quilts in this books, each one has full instructions and cutting measurements. From start to finish the author helps you on your quilting journey by giving good information and simple techniques to make a beautiful quilt with a professional finish. I loved how she gives tips to help with colour combinations. I struggle to marry fabrics, and tend to have a clash right in the middle of my project.
There are no templates, but there are tips and diagrams to find the best cutting method, reducing the need for a template and waste of your fabric.
