Decorate your bedrooms with some beautiful blankets. From classic seasonal florals to toys for children and babies there is something to please experienced embroiderers who are up for a challenge.

This is the work of several people, brought together by the editor of Inspirations magazine. Anybody familiar with their stunning heirloom quality projects will place this as a book for the intermediate and advanced stitcher; beginners would be advised to get plenty of practice in before tackling anything in here. The patterns are not only for full sized blankets but for knee rugs and those of a size for cots and childrens beds. There are nine to choose from, and themes include summer flowers, hedgerow, exotic flowers on black fabric, old time circus, pram, teddy bears, Celtic hearts and blackberries. Each project in this large format book is illustrated with lush photographs of the finished work in situ plus close up details, project stages and some drawn diagrams. Some of these are at the back under Construction, where you can find out how to make up the blankets and also learn some of the more basic stitches. As well as freestyle stitches there is work with appliqué, ribbon, beads and trapunto; instructions are given usually with photographs. Each project has lists of what you need plus stitches and methods, order of work and sections on preparation, embroidery and construction. I found it a help that the book is quite large so nothing is too small and the page sized photographs show what you are aiming to recreate in clear detail. At the back are all the patterns plus notes about each designer and an index divided into projects, construction topics, hints and stitches and techniques. This is also a very beautiful book with its quotations, gorgeously colourful photography and attractively laid out pages. I suddenly feel the need to make a blanketone for the keeper shelf.

Postcard Reviews

This is a book of beauty. Not only are the projects stunning, but the photography that showcases them is just superb.

9 stunning blankets that can be recreated using the most sublime embroidery stitches, cater for every member of your family and friends. I just adored the 'Summer Symphony', which is a pretty bouquet of daisies, roses and other garden flowers make this a project to die for.

Full sized double sided pattern sheets are included and while you will need a knowledge of embroidery, there is a stitch guide included that will benefit all levels of embroidery know how.

The 3-D stitch work is amazing, giving depth and definition to the blankets. Even appliqué is included and with bees, and butterflies they give a whimsical and stunning effect.

I could sing the praises of this book for ever, It is simply divine and beautiful to look through.
